Your Pediatric Dentist in Amherst Helps With Dental Fears

Your pediatric dentist in Amherst offers comfortable services and sedation dentistry.Your pediatric dentist in Amherst plays an invaluable role in the health and development of your child’s teeth over the years. While regular care is vital, it is not always easy. Young children have unique comfort levels. Often, they can be fearful of the dentist, making it almost impossible to get them to go to their appointment without a struggle. At Northampton Pediatric Dentistry, we understand they have specific comfort needs. We cater to our young patients to help them feel at ease so they have no reason to fear their visits to our office, and here’s how we do it.

Compassionate Care for Children

From the moment your child steps into a dental office, they need to feel welcomed, safe, and relaxed. We strive to create this environment to ensure they are comfortable in our office. Our staff is specially trained to meet the specific needs of young patients to help take the fear out of visiting the dentist. We make them feel calm while also creating a fun environment. We have iPods, toys, and games in the waiting room while also offering warm towels and other amenities to help them feel at ease.

How We Help Nervous Children

Sometimes, children need a little extra help to feel comfortable during their appointment, such as when they need to have a dental treatment or an invasive procedure. As a children’s dentist in Amherst, we also offer sedation dentistry. Although many parents are hesitant to consider the use of the medication, we are specially trained and hold safety measures in place to protect the well-being of your child. No matter if they have severe fears, need an invasive treatment, or have a unique medical need, sedation can help.

Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide has been used for more than 100 years during oral treatments. Better known as “laughing gas,” the sedative is inhaled through a mask that is worn over the mouth or nose. It allows your child to relax and stay still during their appointment. The effects of the gas will wear off quickly, allowing them to resume their normal activities the same day.

Hospital Dentistry: If your child requires the use of sedation that cannot safely be used in our office, we may recommend hospital dentistry. This will involve the use of an operating room at Cooley Dickinson Hospital’s Surgical Day Care Center. A skilled anesthesiologist will be onsite to provide your child with general anesthesia while monitoring them throughout the duration of his treatment. In some cases, it may be best to have your child stay overnight so they can recover fully before returning home.

Choose the Caring Dentist You Can Trust

When it comes to your child’s comfort and satisfaction, it can be difficult to find a dentist who can meet the unique needs of young patients. At Northampton Pediatric Dentistry, we strive to help all our patients feel at ease. We provide the personalized approach children need to relax and enjoy their time in our office.
